The Patriots set a new record for most wins in a season as the Patriots won the 22nd match of the season against the Wessington Springs Spartans.
The start of set one went back and forth. Neither team had a big lead in the set until Cambree Hoekman went on a serving run to start pushing the lead. The Spartans called a time-out with the Patriots leading 17-11. The Patriots would outscore the Spartans 8-3 to win set one 25-14.
Set two, the Patriots came out firing on all cylinders as the Patriots jumped out to a 8-1 lead and never looked back as the Patriots rolled to a 25-11 set two victory.
What proved to be the final set of the night, once again the Patriots jumped out to a substantial lead and didn't look back as the Patriots would end the match with a 25-13 set three win and sweeping the Spartans to end the regular season with a win.
Offensively, the Patriots had a nice night at the net. Katelyn Schroeder recorded a team high 21 kills in the match. Rebecca Huizenga was perfect at the net with 10 kills. Ella Johnson and Isabel Gilbert each added 5 kills to the victory. Lila Johnson recorded a whopping 32 assists on the night.
The Patriots struggled serving at times as the team missed 7 serves in the match, but off set it with recording 8 aces in the match. Lila Johnson recorded 4 aces. Gilbert would also record 2 aces.
The Patriots had a nice defensive game both in the back row and at the net. Schroeder led the team with 14 digs, followed by libero Cambree Hoekman, with 13. Lila Johnson also recorded 11 digs. The front line had some big blocks in the game with Schroeder recording 3 block assists, followed by Gilbert and Lila Johnson with 2 block assists. Huizenga also recorded a block solo and a block assist.
The team would like to thank our two seniors, Brooklyn Frankenstein and Rachel Huizenga for all their hard work and dedication to the volleyball program over the years. We are going to miss them next season!
The Patriots end the regular season with a 22-7 mark and runners up in the 281 Conference. They will open up region tournament play on Tuesday night, as they are the #3 seed and they will go against the #6 seed Langford Lions. The match will take place in Tulare, with the time to be announced.
