The Lady Patriots traveled to the "Tiger Den" to take on the Ipswich Tigers. The ladies picked up a much needed victory as they beat the Tigers 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 25-17).
In the first set, the Patriots and Tigers played almost point for point. Neither team could get a scoring run going, until late in the set when the Patriots would string together some serves . That was the difference in set one as the Patriots took a 1-0 lead.
In set two, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead, but an out of rotation call on the Tigers gave new life to the Patriots, as the points that were scored were nullified. Even though, the Tigers went right back to work and the Patriots got down again and could not recover.
Set three, the Patriots came out and sustained a 5 point lead through most of the set and went up on the Tigers 2-1.
The final set of the night, was all the Patriots as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
There were several nice performances from different players the whole night, which was instrumental in the win. Katelyn Schroeder led the team with 19 kills, 20 digs, and 3 solo blocks. Ella Johnson came up with some big hits down the stretch and put together a nice night with 8 kills. Bethany Wiebe had a huge night at the serving line by going 28-28 and coming up with an ace. She was instrumental in several Patriots runs through out the night. Wiebe would also have 4 kills and 11 digs on the nights. Madison Hofer would also tally 4 kills and 9 digs on the night. Shandi Chasing Hawk ended the night with 28 assists, 3 aces, and 11 digs. Presley Binger chipped in 8 digs. Danielle Nowell and Brooklyn Frankenstein each had nice nights in the back row as they each tallied 13 and 10 digs respectively .
The Patriots (10-13) will be back home on Tuesday night in Hitchcock as they take on the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks in a pivotal 281 conference matchup. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m with the 7th grade team, followed by 8th grade team at 5:15 p.m. The JV is slated to start around 6:30 p.m, with Varsity to follow.
