The Lady Patriots traveled to Clark on Saturday to take part in the Cyclone Tournament. The ladies went 2-2 and picked and brought home some hardware by winning the bronze division.
The day started with a rematch with Great Plains Lutheran. The Patriots got down 15-3 in the first set. They would eventually claw their way back and get within 6, but the Panthers would win the first set 25-17. In the second set, the Patriots would find themselves down once again and the Panthers would pull away and win set two 25-15, and take the match 2-0.
Ella Johnson led the Patriots with 4 Kills in the match. Isabel Gilbert and Lila Johnson each chipped in 3 kills. Gracyn Bixler would tally 5 assist and Presley Binger had 4 assists in the effort. Cambree Hoekman would have the lone ace in the match. Hoekman would also lead the Patriots with 10 digs. Gilbert would also tally one solo block in the contest.
In the second match of the day, the Ladies would take on the Webster Bearcats. The Patriots would play a lot better and found themselves in each set. In set 1, the ladies would fine themselves leading most of the set until some costly errors cost the Patriots the set and they would lose a heart break 28-26. In the second set, it was a carbon copy of the first as the Patriots would find themselves leading most of the set until the end when errors would ultimately cost the ladies a win in set 2. Webster would go on to win set 2, 25-23, and take the match 2-0.
In the match, Isabel Gilbert would lead the team with 5 kills and have 4 block assists. The Johnson sisters would each tally 3 kills each. Brooklyn Frankenstein served 12-12 with one ace in the match. Gracyn Bixler would record 9 assists and Presley Binger would tally 5. Cambree Hoekman would have a huge defensive game, tallying 17 digs.
The Patriots would find themselves in the bronze division of the tournament. In the first match of the afternoon, they would take on the Waverly-South Shore Coyotes. It was all Patriots, as the team would jump out to big leads in both sets and never look back. The Patriots would take both sets, 25-16 and 25-14, and win the match 2-0.
It was a team effort, as the stats were even across the board. Rebecca Huizenga would have 5 kills. Once again the Johnson sisters would each tally 3 kills. Frankenstein, Kaycee Stoner, and Ella Johnson would each have 2 aces in the match. Bixler and Binger would each tally 8 and 7 assists respectively. Hoekman would lead the defensive effort with 8 digs.
The final match would be a rematch of an earlier meeting in Estelline. The Patriots would take on the Wilmot Wolves. It was even throughout the match. In the first set, the Wolves would lead throughout and would win the first set 25-22. The second set it was all Patriots and they used some aggressive serving and hitting to get the Wolves out of system. The Patriots would win the second set 25-11. The third set was closer as the Wolves would hang around all set. In the end the Patriots would pick up the set 3 win 25-19, and win the match 2-1, thus taking the Bronze Division and bringing home some hardware.
Leading the team was Huizenga and Gilbert with 10 and 9 kills a piece. Ella Johnson would tally 8 kills and Lila Johnson would tally 7. Bixler and Binger would each tally 16 assists. The team would tally 12 aces with Bixler and Hoekman each having 3. Hoekman led the defensive effort with 11 digs.
The Patriots (4-8) will be back in action on Tuesday night, as they take on Aberdeen Christian in Tulare. The matches start with the Jr. High at 5:15, followed by the JV and Varsity matches.
