The Lady Patriot traveled to Sioux Falls to take part in the Sanford Pentagon Volleyball Tournament.
In the first match of the day, the Patriots faced the Florence-Henry Falcons. The Patriots struggled most of the match getting any type of runs going and limiting errors. The Falcons won the match 2-0 (25-16, 25-6) Rebecca Huizenga would pace the Patriots in the match with 3 kills. Cambree Hoekman added 5 digs on the defensive side. Gracyn Bixler recorded 6 assists and Presley Binger added 5.
The second match of the day found the Patriots playing the Howard Tigers. The first set was all Howard as the Patriots could not get much going and would lose 25-8. In the second set, the Patriots would string to together some runs and serves. The ladies took the second set 25-17. In the deciding set, it was all Howard as the Patriots would fall 25-13 and take the match 2-1. Rebecca Huizenga tallied 5 kills. Ella and Lila Johnson each tallied 3 kills a piece. Lila and Hoekman added 6 digs each. Presley Binger recorded 6 assists and Gracyn Bixler added 5.
In the consolation semifinals, the Patriots took on the Winner Warriors. The Patriots would come out strong and lead most of set one and had several opportunities to put set 1 away, but they could not pull it off as it would take extra points to decide the set and Warriors would win 29-27. Winner also controlled most of set 2 and would take the set 25-14 and win the match 2-0. Leading the way for the Patriots was Isabel Gilbert with 4 kills. Rebecca Huizenga and Ella Johnson would each have 3 kills. Brooklyn Frankenstein recorded 16 digs and Hoekman would tally 14. Presley Binger tallied 3 aces along with 10 assists. Bixler would also have 7 assists.
The final match of the day was for 7th and 8th place of the division. The Patriots faced the Canistota Hawks. The Patriots would come from behind in the first set and take set 1 25-20. The second set proved to be all the Hawks and the Patriots could not get much going and would fall 25-13. The third set was all Patriots as Presley Binger and Cambree Hoekman would get some scoring runs going from behind the serve line. The Patriots took set three 25-16 and took the match 2-1. The ladies would led my Huizenga with 6 kills. Ella and Lila Johnson would each add 3 kills. Presley Binger would tally 7 aces from the serve line to lead the team. Binger and Bixler would record 6 and 5 assists each. Hoekman led the team in digs with 11. Isabel Gilbert also recorded a solo and an assist block in the victory. The Patriots finished in 7th place in the division.
The Patriots (8-11) will be right back in action on Tuesday night, 9-27-2022, as they travel down to Sunshine Bible Academy to take on the Crusaders in a 281 conference match. Games begin with the Jr. High at 5:15 p.m, followed by JV and Varsity.
