This past Friday, our students competed in the Regional Art Wars competition at Northern State University. Schools from across the region participated in this exciting event. Unlike many competitions, Art Wars does not separate schools by class size—AA, A, and B schools are all judged together—making this an especially competitive experience.
The competition is open to students in grades 9–12. Each participant enters a room, receives a prompt, and has one hour and forty-five minutes to create a composition and write an artist statement explaining their work. With over 60 students competing this year, the level of talent and creativity was impressive.
I am incredibly proud of all of our participants. Every student I brought this year was a freshman and completely new to this type of fast-paced, high-pressure competition. They represented our school with creativity, focus, and determination.
A special congratulations to:
Adelynne Ihnen for placing 3rd in Drawing, qualifying her for State, and earning an Honorable Mention in Painting, making her a State alternate.
Alastair Traube for placing 3rd in Digital Graphics, qualifying him for State.
Breckan Estey for receiving an Honorable Mention in Photography, making him a State alternate.
Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and artistic achievement. We are proud of you!
